JUNE 2024 EVENT: POSTPONED
Dear Friends,
We regret to inform you that we at the Bardejov Jewish Preservation Committee had to make the difficult decision to postpone our 2024 Commemoration due to security concerns in Slovakia.
We understand that this may cause you inconveniences which we are terribly sorry for, but it is our utmost duty to ensure everyone’s safety during this time.
We will of course keep you updated with the new date as soon as we have selected it.

2024 will mark the 10-year anniversary of the dedication of Bardejov’s Holocaust Memorial.
We plan to commemorate this important milestone in June 2024: from Tuesday, June 25th to Thursday, June 27th.
What are we planning?
- The inauguration of the newly restored Beit Hamidrash as a Jewish Heritage Museum Building
- 10-year anniversary of the Bardejov Holocaust Memorial – Lectures, Presentation of Videos
- A commemoration ceremony at the Bardejov Holocaust Memorial with the participation of dignitaries from Slovakia and from around the world
- Workshops and meetings with local Bardejovers
- “Bardejov” movie screening
- Exhibition of local student projects on Jewish themes
- Tours of Jewish Bardejov

Program Outline:
Our program will start with a welcome coffee on Tuesday afternoon, when we will meet all of you, and provide you with your welcome packet. The following is a loose idea of what the program will entail.
- Tuesday evening after dinner we will meet for an evening program that will include lectures, discussions, and film screening.
- Wednesday will include daytime tours, Commemoration Ceremony in the Memorial, Reception, Dedication of the Beit Hamidrash, and evening program in the Suburbia yard.
- Thursday morning will include free time to schmooze with new friends and old as you prepare for your journey home.
ESSAY AND ART CONTEST
LITERÁRNA A VÝTVARNÁ SÚTAŽ
V tohtorocnej literárnej a výtvarnej sútaži, sa študenti môžu zamerat na niektorú z vyššie uvedených tém, ktorá sa týka židovskej histórie a kultúry, holokaustu a jeho pripomínania, obnovy židovských pamiatok v Bardejove, významu vzdelávania o “Nikdy viac” vo všeobecnosti a najmä vzhladom na dnešné politick é prostredie vo svete a vzostup antisemitizmu, a xenofóbie.
Students may choose to focus on any topic that reflects on the Revival of Local Jewish Heritage in Bardejov: restoration of Jewish sites in Bardejov, the Holocaust and its commemoration, the significance of Educating for “Never Again” in general, and especially given today’s political environment in the world and the rise of Antisemitism and Xenophobia.
